By the end of the project in March 2008, a Guide and Compendium document were elaborated to support and inform future SPI exercises and thus generate a lasting impact of the project exceeding the project lifetime. The Compendium includes a comprehensive overview of existing SPI tools and activities, their modes of operation, objectives and targets. In addition, a complementary Guide was developed providing practical suggestions on how to design and implement a relevant SPI exercise in a regional context.
To ensure broad applicability, the Guide and Compendium documents went through various validation phases before finalisation. A first draft was discussed during the Dublin workshop in November 2006. The feedback from this workshop was included and the document further refined to support the RegStrat pilot applications which were conducted between January and December 2007. After the conclusion of the pilot applications in the regions, the experiences made with applying the Guide and Compendium were fed back into the documents before they were finalised in March 2008.
